Originally from Austria, where he graduated in 1994 at the Medical University of Vienna, Dr Puhalla completed his specialist exam in 2002. He undertook further training in bariatric, hepato-pancreatic- biliary and upper gastrointestinal surgery in high volume centres under the guidance of international opinion leaders in Austria and Texas.

During that time, he also completed a PhD in liver cancer, followed by an appointment as a Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital in Vienna.

In 2008, Dr Puhalla commenced as a General Surgeon at the Gold Coast Hospital.

Dr Puhalla is dedicated to achieve the best possible results for his patients. He regularly travels overseas to further his education and training and stay up to date with the latest surgical techniques.

Prof Dr Gerhard Prager MD PhD. is the director of the very well respected and recognized, Bariatric and metabolic unit, Medical University Vienna, President IFSO – EC (International Federation of Surgery for Obesity – European Chapter), published more than 100 scientific articles.
